wasted money. I read the reviews on this dvd but went completely against what many had said about dvd's not being read and all that could possibly go wrong. i haven't used this dvd player more than one hundred times and it's mostly on the blink.
If you have good eyes and a steady hand with a soldering iron it can be fixed in about 45 min with a $1.59 capacitor from Radio Shack. This was a gift from my wife for Christmas two years ago. If you would rather not have to do this (and eventually you WILL need to ) then go with another model, if you don't mind the tinkering then it is a good player. I did the following to mine today when it failed after two years, instructions for the procedure are available online. However people don't pay money to do this work themselves. As a DVD player it gives a great picture and also allows me to play region 2 DVD's which comes in handy for my British copies of the 1950's series of "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (American versions have since become available). The big problem is the failure rate on the devices, the power button flashes and nothing happens. This is due to a Capacitor failure.
Now it won't turn on and my roommate's crappy chick flick is stuck in it :/ I loved this machine for about the first year I had it.
I also got it because it reads burned DVDs and at the time seemed to be one of the few that did that. Was one of the lower priced models at the time, but is still working in 2008 and reads perfectly. I know everything is going HD with Blu Ray, but if you are looking for a simple DVD player I would get this one. This is a great little DVD player I've had since 2004. Originally got it due to not having a DVD player and wanting to start getting and watching them.
It's SO good, that I've recommended it to all my friends & I've even bought one for my parents. That makes it a must-have. This is a great DVD player. It even plays my "home-made" discs.
